EU interior ministers agreed in December 2011 to simplify and accelerate procedures for re-introduction of visa regime in case of “sudden and significant” influx of asylum seekers from countries currently on the” white” Schengen list. This move is largely seen as a warning to Balkan countries and will only enter into force if it gets a green light in the European Parliament. But with reception capacity of some EU countries stretched to its limits, high numbers of Balkan asylum seekers will continue to pose a threat to the visa liberalization.
